19 Year Old Faces Charges After Alleged Fairfax County DUI Death

Last month, a 19-year-old Virginia woman was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) and leaving the scene of an accident. According to the Washington Post, Carol Rood-Johnson of Woodbridge, Virginia was arrested on Saturday August 18, 2012 after an accident on I -95 near Lorton, Virginia. She may face additional charges.

It has been reported that Ms. Rood-Johnson hit and killed a man on the side of I-95 at approximately two minutes after midnight on August 18.  The man had allegedly pulled his car to the shoulder of the I-95 northbound lanes. He was reportedly standing outside of his vehicle when he was hit by Ms. Rood-Johnson, who was driving a Hyundai Santa Fe SUV. Ms. Rood-Johnson reportedly left the scene of the accident and the police later found the Hyundai Santa Fe in Prince George’s County, Maryland.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene of this Northern Virginia car accident. He has been identified as 42-year-old Clarence E. Alston of Washington D.C.

Ms. Rood-Johnson was held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. The Virginia State Police investigated the accident and said that additional charges were possible. The northbound lanes of I-95 near mile marker 162 were closed for approximately 9 hours after the wreck and reopened around 9:15 a.m. on Saturday August 18.
