Arlington Man Arrested for Beating and Robbing 93-Year-Old Man

Police arrested a 59-year-old man in connection with an assault and robbery that occurred on Wednesday. Arlington resident Rudolph Victor Curtis has been charged with robbery, malicious wounding, and impersonating a law enforcement officer.

Police say that Wednesday morning at about 10:20, a 93-year-old man was getting out of his car in the 5700 block of Leesburg Pike. A man approached him and identified himself as a police officer, flashing what looked like credentials. He then demanded the victim’s driver’s license. When the victim pulled out his wallet, the man struck him several times in the face, grabbed the wallet, and took off in a Ford Mustang.

Several people had witnessed the robbery and went to help the victim, who suffered minor injuries. The witnesses were able to provide a description of the assailant, which led to Curtis’s arrest.

Police detectives believe they can tie Curtis to two other robberies of elderly men in the 3400 block of South Jefferson Street. The first occurred on June 9, when an 85-year-old man’s wallet was stolen. In the other incident, which took place on July 24, a robber took an 81-year-old man’s cash. Neither of these victims was physically harmed.
