NFL Running Back Charged with DUI Hours After Setting Franchise Record

On September 17, 2012, Atlanta Falcons running back Michael Turner scored a touchdown to help his team win a Monday night football game against the Denver Broncos. Hours later, Mr. Turner was arrested for drunk driving and speeding.

According to reports, Mr. Turner was driving a black Audi R8 on Interstate 85 northeast of Atlanta after midnight on September 18, 2012. The Gwinnett County police report clocking Mr. Turner’s car driving 97 miles-per-hour on a 65 miles-per-hour section of the highway.  A spokesperson for the Gwinnett County police reports that Mr. Turner was pulled over for speeding and that the officer who stopped Mr. Turner smelled alcohol on his breath and started a DUI investigation. The officer then arrested Mr. Turner after he allegedly failed a field sobriety test.

Mr. Turner was booked in the Gwinnett County jail, just outside of Atlanta, and remained in jail for just a few hours before being released on a $2,179 bond.

The Atlanta Falcons have told the media that they are aware of the situation and that they have no comment on ongoing legal matters. The touchdown that Michael Turner scored on September 17 was his fifty-first touchdown for the Falcons, a franchise record.
